Alan LoFaso, Parliamentarian
As a self-described liberal pragmatist, Alan LoFaso has been a community and Democratic activist for over 20 years. Beginning as a campus activist for the gay and lesbian students at UC Davis, Alan has been active in LGBT causes since then, including serving as a lobbyist in the state capitol for the LGBT community and those affected by HIV/AIDS for five years. In that capacity, Alan drafted substantial portions of California’s first-in-the-nation Domestic Partnership Law. His first Democratic Party office was as Legislative Chair of the now-defunct River City Democratic Club in 1990.
Since the mid-1990s, Alan has worked for three members of the legislature and now serves as Chief Deputy to Board of Equalization Chairwoman Betty T. Yee after also serving as Governmental Affairs Director for the California Public Utilities Commission. In these positions, Alan has developed major legislative enactments in the areas of health care, energy, taxation and civil rights.
Alan serves on the DPSC as the representative of the Stonewall Democratic Club of Greater Sacramento. Alan was also recently appointed to the City of Sacramento Charter Review Committee. Alan’s political motto is a phrase attributed to Congress Member Henry A. Waxman: “God never intended for liberals to be stupid.” Alan also calls himself a “pop music idiot” while enjoying opera and classical music as a long-time season subscriber of the Sacramento and San Francisco Operas.
