The Democratic Party of Sacramento County (DPSC) applauds Judge Walker's ruling that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. Today's ruling is a victory for civil rights and the fundamentally American proposition that all people are created equal and deserve equal treatment under the law.

"This is a victory for all Americans, whether we appreciate it or not. Our country was founded on the ideal that no person be subject to another's religious beliefs. Judge Walker rightly affirmed that we simply do not have the right to deny minorities equality under the law," said DPSC spokesman Devin Lavelle. "So many of our country's darkest hours, whether slavery, internment or segregation, have come when this principle has been disregarded. Today we are one step closer to the breaking of the dawn of true equality and the realization of the great promise of liberty and justice for all."

The DPSC will continue to fight for and protect the founding principles that make America great and work with the many dedicated people across the County who have worked so hard to see this happen.
