Sacramento, Calif. – The chair of the Democratic Party of Sacramento County (DPSC), speaking on behalf of the Democratic Party Central Committee, released this statement Tuesday concerning the death of former Sacramento City Councilman, member of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and state and federal health official Grantland Johnson, who died Tuesday at age 65.

DPSC Chair Kerri Asbury said:

“Today we are saddened to learn of the passing of a great leader in Sacramento and in Democratic politics, Grantland Johnson. When I first joined the Democratic Party of Sacramento County, Grantland was there telling stories and relating political history for Sacramento. I wish I could have spent more time with him learning, and documenting his stories of Sacramento lore.

“Grantland helped develop the city and county from the late ’70s to the early ’90s, and always seemed to maintain a good handle on the needs and development of both. Grantland will not be forgotten by me, our party or Sacramento. Our sincerest condolences to his family.”
